Early Childhood resources

Maria Montessori: I have always been curious on how this approach works. Hands on learning is a great approach but it is completely different to see a child basically self-engage at very young ages.
Jean Piaget: This was my favorite theorist while I was studying for my bachelor’s. I believe that children have their own interpretation of the world and as they come across problems and issues they tend to figure things out on their own. I believe that with some assistance they can create a better understanding of the world in which they live in.

Florida Head Start Program: I strongly believe in this program. I feel that every child should have basic skills before entering kindergarten. I picked the Florida head start program because I know that every state has different requirements.

  1. Elizabeth,
I chose to view the website you posted about Jean Piaget. I too have always been interested in his work since I completed my Bachelor's in Psychology. I never knew this website existed thanks for posting it.

  2. First off, I wanted to say that your organization of your blog makes it very easy to read and follow along. Secondly, I love that you picked Maria Montessori. I learned about her and the Montessori schools in several classes when I was in college. I have never had the opportunity to work or substitute teach in a Montessori school, but I would absolutely love too! Have you ever worked or been in a Montessori class? I like the fact that the students learn pretty much on their own and stay with the same people and teacher until they get to around the 5th grade or higher.

    1. Hey Chelsea, Unfortunately I haven't been able to but this is is definitely my next goal. Even if it's just to visit and observe.

  3. I added a resource to Head Start as well. I completely agree with the program. I work for one and get to see first hand how wonderful the program truly is.

  4. I think your resources are very good. I believe as educators its so important to have these resources to make us better educators and be aware of these resources. I like that you gave resources on individuals that have made a difference in our field. Maria Montessori is a good resource to get alot of information. I agree that hands on activites is very important to young children in the school setting. Here in NY, Headstart is where many children go to get ahead of what comes before them in school. I believe that every state should makes sure that each child gets equal opportunity to grow and learn as an individual.
