“Poverty must not be a bar to learning and learning must
offer an escape from poverty.”
-Lyndon B. Johnson
“Everything in me was being called on to teach.”
-Louise Derman-Sparks
Tell me and I’ll forget; show me and I may remember; involve
me and I’ll understand.
-Chinese proverb
“Tell me and I’ll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I’ll understand”. I like this Chinese proverb because of what I think it means. I think it’s trying to say that we as educators must actively engage with the children mentally, emotionally, and socially in order to enhance their lives. I always was told that great minds think alike, lol. I also chose the same quote by Lyndon B. Johnson… “Poverty must not be a bar to learning and learning must offer an escape from poverty.” I like it because I feel that a quality education may provide children with a life free from poverty unlike the 15.1% currently in the United States.
ReplyDeleteI like the quote "Everything in me was being called to teach." Ever since I was a little kid, I have always wanted to be a teacher. My first and second grade teachers were the two individuals that encouraged me to be a teacher. They were always there to help me when I needed it. If you are not 100% in it for the children, then teaching is the wrong profession for you!
ReplyDeleteI love your quotes. The Chinese proverb inparticular, is great. I am a very hands on learner. So this really resonates with me. The quote from Lyndon Johnson is great as well, unfortunately it is not always the case when it comes to education, but hopefully this can change.
ReplyDelete“Everything in me was being called on to teach.” This quote resonates with me, why because I tried to do the opposite and go to another field, but I couldn't fight it anymore, and ending up in Japan doing exactly just that.C'est la vie!
