My Mom and Dad have always been my inspiration. They are
both professors at Miami Dade College and have a great passion for education.
You can say it runs in the blood. My parents were never too pushy; they let me
take the reins of my own dreams and allowed me to participate in any and every
activity that I wanted to be in. Growing up I was encouraged to be the best and
when that failed I was encouraged to keep trying and never give up. One saying
I remember clearly was “If you want to do it, then do it. There will never be
anyone to stop you but yourself.” I am beyond grateful for them because till
this day they are still helping me with school. If it wasn’t for them I would
not be posting on this blog right now.
My grandfather and grandmother are my next inspirations. All
they have ever wanted for me is just to be happy. They never judge and have
always been there for me. As much as I love my parents I collided a lot with
them. When I was 19 I moved in with my grandparents during construction at my
home and I never left (till I moved out with my now husband). I was at peace
and at liberty to grow up. I come from a Cuban/Costa Rican background and
controlling boyfriends, activities, and way of life is all part of it, no
matter the age. However my grandparents would communicate much better than my
parents and the best part is that they trusted all of my decisions. Till this
day they are there for me in every which way possible. I’m a lucky kid!
Your grandparents sound a lot like my grandparents! It is awesome to have someone other than your parents there to support you and be there for you when in need. I also like the quote that you said that your mom and dad said. I have heard that saying a few times, but it is definately true! If you are really dedicated and strung on completing something or being a part of something, you are the only person that is going to allow that to happen! Also, I like the pictures of your mom and dad and also your grandparents! Is that your mom's side of the family?
ReplyDeleteYou certainly are a lucky kid. I love the link that you have with your grandparents, its so important to cherish the moments you have with them. As for your parents, I hope they are good grandparents to your daughter. As for your husband you talk so highly of him, sounds like a great father and husband.
ReplyDeleteHi there. As I was reading your blog this week I can see you have people in your life that encouraged and trusted in you with whatever you wanted to do. Its great to have a backgroud of family members being educators, because you always have someone that know what you are going through. It seems that you have family members there for you with whatever you want to do. I like the statement taht you said if you want to do then do it. If you dont do it, you are never going to accomplish anything you will just remain the same! I enjoyed reading your blog!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth,
ReplyDeleteit's great that your parents encouraged you to try different activities, I do the same with my children, it allows a person to see what they like and what they don't. My daughter has discovered in the last year how much she LOVES basketball, and my son football. At the same time they have tried things and then decided once was fun, but it wasn't something they'd want to do again. Just think how well rounded it made you!
That is awesome. How great that you got the opportunity to try different things.
